After walking back from Canary Wharf (Cabot Place) shopping centre, I took note of a set of 4 floating reed mats, which I saw a few weeks ago with a pair of swans starting to nest. When I had a look today, they are now incubating what looks like about 6-8 eggs. Also on the matting are a pair of Great Crested Grebes doing their mating/nesting ritual of offering various bits of twig, plastic etc. to each other. Cannot see a nest as yet. There are also a pair of Coots with a nest on the mats and they are sitting on an unknown amount of eggs. Also spotted was just one Moorhen. Yet to see if it has a partner and if it has, wher it will nest. What a wildlife haven Canary Wharf is turning out to be.
Over the last few years I have also managed to catch sight of a seal (3 times) swimming about around the Wharf. A fairly rare sight I think you'll agree.
